This one-room school was built in 1912; it is the only existing pre-installation building on Fort Leonard Wood. Grades 1-8 were taught here until 1941 when the government took over the land for the building of Fort Leonard Wood. The building was restored in 1995 and it is used for educational programs throughout the year and is the primary venue for the Cultural Resources Management Program’s annual Missouri Archaeology Month, National Preservation Month and Earth Week activities. Don’t forget to enjoy a walk along the Sandsprings Trail located behind the school.
When planning a visit to Fort Leonard Wood, visitors are encouraged to contact the facility to determine what identification will be accepted. All adults seeking to gain access to Fort Leonard Wood must have REAL ID compliant state-issued driver’s licenses or identification cards. If your state-issued driver’s license or ID card is not REAL ID compliant, you will be required to provide an alternate acceptable identification as well. Valid vehicle registration and proof of insurance are also required.
