The Museum is named for the art patron who left a small fortune to the city to create a center for the arts. It is housed in the Greek revival-styled, historic Moore-Dalton House. The former home owner, James Dalton, patented the first electric adding machine (The Dalton Adding Machine) in the history of the United States. His factory was founded here in 1904. You may see a 1915 model on display here.
The Museum has a fine permanent collection of art and has rotating monthly exhibits. The interior of the museum is trimmed in finely carved wood. It also houses a free standing Regina Music Box, plus a Mason and Hamlin baby grand piano. The home is surrounded by the Friends Sculpture Garden with a variety of sculptures and beautiful plantings. The museum also has a gift shop, featuring original art, jewelry, pottery, books and fine prints.
Visiting hours are 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays; and 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Closed only on Mondays and some major holidays. May also be closed between exhibit changes.
