See Photo Location

Sedalia is best known as the home of the Missouri State Fair. Since 1901, the central Missouri town has highlighted the Show-Me State’s rich history and agriculture traditions. Thousands of visitors fill the fairgrounds every August, but Sedalia offers many other spots that are definitely worth a stop.

The side dishes – called baggage on the menu – include “My Grandmother’s Recipe Slaw.”  Request a table in the vintage dining car attached to the restaurant for a retro rail experience.

Museums and Historic Sites

Nine galleries display modern and contemporary art at the Daum Museum, located on the campus of State Fair Community College. The museum’s collection features paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures created since the mid-20th century. Artists include Andy Warhol, Dale Chihuly, Louis Bourgeois and Betty Woodman.

B. Katy Depot and Railroad Heritage Museum

The location also serves as a full-service trailhead for the Katy Trail. You can rent a bike at Champion Bicycles to travel across the country’s longest rail-to-trail project. The shop also sells new and used bicycles and offers service and repairs, parts and accessories, and an assortment of refreshments and snacks.

C. Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site

Tour a circa 1900 castle atop a towering bluff at the Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site, located six miles north of Sedalia. Built by local lawyer and politician John H. Bothwell, the 31-room Arts and Crafts style lodge was constructed over the top of three caves that provided natural cooling in the summer. Hiking and mountain biking trails and picnic areas are available on site.
