No subject engenders more debate than religion, and the second Spring show at Bluff City Theater wades into the conversation with an intelligently hilarious comedy written by Scott Carter, chief contributor for television personality Bill Maher. Where popular belief is that there is only one “Gospel,” the reality is that there have been many published over the two centuries of Christianity.
The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy-Discord brings these three literary giants together where, each having written their own translation of the Gospels, they must defend the validity of their version in order to escape purgatory.
New director Cedric Gegel, who appeared at Bluff City Theater in last season’s Kennedy: Bobby’s Last Crusade has conceived a show that will be performed environmentally outdoors, and will be full of surprises and delights for the audience. The talented cast, all based in New York City, will be making their Bluff City Theater debuts this May. The Gospel opens in preview on April 11 and runs until Saturday, April 20.
