Gravel excavation in the early and mid-1900s left this area with six lakes — and the state’s largest natural sand beach. These features provide opportunities for fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing and kayaking. The lakes and their proximity to the Mississippi River also make Wakonda a great place for bird-watching. Campgrounds, picnic shelters, and trails for hiking and biking are also available.
The park is located 3 miles south of La Grange off Route 61.
