This 6-foot-by-14 foot mural, Benton’s last signed large-scale work, is displayed in the Joplin city hall. The mural depicts Joplin in 1900.

Benton grew up in Neosho and worked as a newspaper cartoonist in Joplin. Along with the original mural, Joplin City Hall offers a display that shows the evolution of the mural that Mr. Benton created for Joplin.

Items utilized from the beginning of the mural process to the end are available for public viewing Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
