Southern is Chef Rick Lewis’ newest restaurant venture in partnership with Mike Emerson of Pappy’s Smokehouse, which is located right next door. Southern is a fast-casual restaurant offering Southern home-style cooking in Midtown St. Louis. The Southern-inspired menu consists of various Louisiana deli-influenced sandwiches, snack items and Nashville style, hot fried chicken. Our St. Louis version of Nashville hot fried chicken comes in four styles: Original is for those not wanting any heat but a lot of flavor; the mild is just hot enough for most people; our General Tso’s tastes similar to the hot wings you’ll find at some St. Louis restaurants; the Cluckin’ Hot kicks up the heat quite a bit more than the mild.
Southern has deli sandwiches such as The Cubano and Hog Father. Southern also offers some Louisiana-inspired special deli sandwiches like The Dirty South, made with lots of thick bacon, and our Fried Green Tomato Po ‘boy. The Gobbler deli sandwich with fresh smoked turkey and dress’n is a Southern favorite that’s almost like eating Thanksgiving dinner.
