This is the burial place of Missouri governors Meredith Miles Marmaduke and Claiborne Fox Jackson, along with Dr. John Sappington, a pioneer in the use of quinine to treat malaria. All were prominent Arrow Rock citizens.
A quarter mile to the south, visitors will find Sappington African Cemetery State Historic Site, which contains the graves of local Black Americans, some of whom were enslaved by Sappington. Both sites are unstaffed and managed by Arrow Rock State Historic Site.
