Experience history in the original county seat! At the complex you can visit the 1838 County Courthouse, 1913 one-room schoolhouse, Johnson County Museum and the Mary Smiser Heritage Library. The County Courthouse has carefully been restored to it’s original specifications in 1965. The building served as the site of the famous 1870 Old Drum Trial that inspired the phrase “Man’s Best Friend.” Learn more about the trial and the history of Johnson County and neighboring area at the complex.
