The new History Museum on the Square will open in Summer 2019. Our six permanent galleries will tell the stories of significant events in Springfield and create distinct and intentional dialogues about objects, individuals, and history– dialogues that will foster examinations of unique aspects of Springfield, Greene County and its people. A rich and vast collection of artifacts, photographs, and the "voices of history" are combined using innovative technologies.
Until then, we continue to operate in our temporary location, the historic Fox Theatre on Springfield's Park Central Square. Our current exhibit is Memories of the Mother Road: Birthplace of Route 66. Travel back in time on the iconic highway and learn about the places that put Springfield, the birthplace of Route 66, on the map. View gas pumps and neon signs and hear the music that will make you remember the original hamburger drive-ins on the Mother Road.
