Chariton County Museum & Historical Society

See Photo Location

The Chariton County Historical Society Headquarters and Museum is home to thousands of artifacts from Chariton County’s past, as well as the Society’s collection of historical records.  You can spend an hour or a day taking a walk through history in our six rooms–Genealogy Library, Veterans Room, Little Dixie Room, Tool Room, Tobacco/Implement/Railroad Room, and Main Street Room.  We truly are a hidden gem and have been coined the “Smithsonian of Missouri” and the “Best Museum in Missouri” by visitors.  Admission is free and we offer quarterly programs in January, April, July, and October.  You can join our membership for $20 per year, which includes a 10-page quarterly newsletter and a discount at our museum store.  We also hold annual events that are fun for all ages such as our Flashlight Scavenger Hunt in the fall and a Candy Cane Hunt in December.
