The Chariton County Historical Society Headquarters and Museum is home to thousands of artifacts from Chariton County’s past as well as the Society’s collection of historical records.
You can spend an hour or a day taking a walk through history in our seven rooms — Genealogy Library, Military and Little Dixie Room, Tool Room, Tobacco/Ice/Railroad/Summer Kitchen Room, Olio Room, Main Street Room, and our brand new 2025 addition, Implement Room.
We truly are a hidden gem and have been coined the “Smithsonian of Missouri” and the “Best Museum in Missouri” by visitors. Admission is free and we offer quarterly programs in January, April, July and October. You can join our membership for $20 per year, which includes a 10-page quarterly newsletter and a discount at our museum store. We also hold annual events that are fun for all ages, such as our Flashlight Scavenger Hunt in the fall and a Candy Cane Hunt in December.
