This bustling noodles and dumpling shop, run by the Chang family of Genghis Khan Mongolian Barbecue fame, is one of the coolest restaurants in Kansas City dining.
Step through the brightly colored doors and into a warm, hip scene. The long, high-ceilinged rooms with big windows are set off with sponged blue walls trimmed in bright yellow and red. Patrons can view the activity of the busy staff preparing the fresh, imaginative dishes in the open kitchen at the back of the restaurant.
Opened in early 2002, Blue Koi Midtown quickly developed a loyal following. Named the “Best Ethnic Restaurant 2003” by Ingram’s Magazine, the Blue Koi has pleased patrons with innovative dishes such as Ants on a Tree, a colorful dish of cellophane noodles tossed with delicately spiced ground pork and bits of cabbage and chopped carrots or a variety of plump Northern Chinese dumplings.
