Native Plants: Explore a Shortleaf Pine Forest

Registration period: January 9-January 28

Date: Saturday, January 28, 2023 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Location: Twin Pines Conservation Education Center

Join MDC staff as they explore a shortleaf pine forest. We will be visiting the following shortleaf pine forests, Twin Pines CEC, Rocky Creek CA and Virgin Pine/Pioneer Forest. Missouri’s shortleaf pine forest provided countless railroad ties for our nation’s expanding transportation network in the early 20th century. The heavy logging during this time devastated the native pine forest habitat. We will be visiting a regrowth forest and discussing the importance of shortleaf pine. Join us at 10 a.m. at Twin Pines, as we caravan to Rocky Creek CA and the Virgin Pine/Pioneer Forest shortleaf pine management areas, where we will explore and develop an appreciation of our Missouri shortleaf pine habitat.
