Prescribed Burn Workshop: Prescribed Burn Demonstration Field Day

Date: Saturday, March 2, 2024 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Location: Twin Pines Conservation Education Center
Landowners that own property within Shannon, Carter, Ripley and Oregon Counties will be given highest registration priority.
The online “Official Missouri Prescribed Burn Course” must be completed before attending this event. You can register for the online portion here: https://www.hunter-ed.com/prescribedburn/ The online course has a $25 charge to a third-party host (not MDC) and can be completed in approximately 2 – 4 hours. Please bring your certificate of completion and mileage sheet to the Demonstration Field Day.
We will be conducting a prescribed burn so please dress accordingly with leather boots, leather gloves, cotton pants, cotton long sleeve shirt, and safety glasses. Participants will learn about burn equipment, burn line installation, safe weather parameters, ignition operations, and other techniques to safely conduct a prescribed burn.
If inclement weather, workshop will be held indoors at the same site.
Mammals: Bears of Missouri (VIRTUAL)

Join us as we discuss some fun facts about black bears in Missouri. The bear population continues to increase around the state, so being “Bear Aware” is more important than ever.
Nature Art: Pine Needlers (VIRTUAL)

Date: Thursday, March 21, 2024 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Learn embroidery techniques while also exploring “Trees of Missouri” by stitching quilt blocks based on that theme.
Registration period: February 22 – March 21
Date: Thursday, March 21, 2024 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.

This class is a 12-month program (June 2023-May 2024) that meets each month. You will learn simple, but beautiful embroidery techniques as we explore some of the most stunning and unique trees native to Missouri.
By signing up, you are committing to attend all twelve of the monthly sessions so that you will be able to complete all 15 blocks for an entire quilt.
