For all those who are interested in traveling the blue highways, for those who are interested in Route 66 and the Jefferson Highway, and for those who just like to get together with like-minded roadies from all over the country, the Route 66 Association of Missouri presents its Annual Motor Tour, to be held September 17-20. The fun begins Thursday night, September 17, at the Best Western Rail Haven Motel in Springfield. On Friday, Sept. 18, tourgoers will visit the “birthplace” of Route 66 100 years ago and see the excellent Route 66 offerings at the Museum on the Square. After lunch at a Route 66 institution, Gay Parita, tourgoers will cruise to the greater Carthage/Carterville/Joplin area where there will be events Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19, held in conjunction with our friends in the Jefferson Highway Association. On Saturday night there will be a “shindig” in Carterville with live music and all the trappings. On Sunday, Sept. 20, the tour will end with a cruise that will extend from Schifferdecker Park in Joplin to the Hi Way Café in Vinita, OK. For Motels, you can contact the Route 66 Rail Haven Motel in Springfield, MO and the Holiday Inn in Joplin.
