The State Historical Society of Missouri St. Louis Research Center

The State Historical Society of Missouri is the premier research center for the study of Missouri state and local history. Founded in May 1898, SHSMO collects, preserves, and publishes materials that enhance research and supports learning opportunities in the study of Missouri and the Midwest.

Supporting the study of Missouri and the Midwest, the St. Louis Research Center, located on the University of Missouri–St. Louis campus focuses on preserving the diverse history of the city and its surrounding area within a statewide context.

The Research Center's rich holdings trace the evolution of greater St. Louis through unique collections that document important groups ranging from labor organizations to environmental activists. Other primary sources offer a window into minority groups and the many diverse communities that make up the growing metropolis.
