This park offers basic, electric and sewer/electric/water sites, plus a special-use camping area. Some sites are reservable. Services include showers, water and a dump station. Other features of the park include trails, a lake, picnic shelters and a scenic overlook above the Mississippi River.
Trail of Tears State Park commemorates the deadly forced removal of the Cherokee people, part of the larger Trail of Tears. Nine Cherokee detachments being forcibly relocated to Oklahoma crossed the Mississippi River here during the winter of 1838-39. Exhibits inside the park’s visitor center interpret this tragedy, as well as the park’s natural features.
