Kansas City, also known as The City of Fountains, is home to a large downtown and metropolitan area that features a variety of things to do and places to see. Kansas City features some of the country’s best barbecue restaurants and plenty of museums and historic sites to pique your curiosity.

Morning

A. Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

Tour the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, a mega-modern, state-of-the-art facility encompassing two awe-inspiring performance venues: The Muriel Kauffman Theatre and the Helzberg Hall.

B. American Jazz Museum

Located in the historic 18th and Vine Jazz District, the American Jazz Museum showcases the sights and sounds of a uniquely American art form. The American Jazz Museum is co-located with another of Kansas City’s best historical museums, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

C. Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

This museum recreates the look, sounds and feel of the game's storied past. The Negro Leagues were established in 1920. Video presentations and memorabilia in the 10,000 square-foot multimedia exhibit chronicle the history and heroes of the Negro Leagues, from the origin to the 1960s. The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is Co-located with another of Missouri’s best historical museums, the American Jazz Museum in the Historic 18th and Vine District.

Evening

A. The Raphael Hotel

This one of a kind boutique hotel is patterned after Europe's fine small hotels. The Raphael is designed to offer a uniquely Kansas City experience, combining the intimacy and charm of a locally significant landmark with highly individualized service.

Built in 1927 as apartments, the building was transformed into the Raphael Hotel in 1975. A total renovation was concluded in 2009.

B. Grunauer

Chef Peter Grnauer, along with members of his Kansas City and Vienna-based family, serves Germanic cuisine in the historic Freight House in the Crossroads Arts District. The menu focuses on authentic representations of classic Austrian and Continental European cuisine.

C. Argosy Casino Hotel and Spa

D. Southmoreland on the Plaza

B. Jack Stack Barbecue – Freight House

Award-winning barbecue and the historic Freight House make for one of the best barbecue restaurants in the Kansas City area. Jack Stack serves quality hickory-smoked meats, fresh seafood and sides.
