The 1885 Finke Theatre

See Photo Location

The Finke Theatre hosts performers with world-wide appeal. We work diligently to select a wide variety of entertainment, featuring comedians and impersonators; contemporary, classical and blue-grass musicians; variety acts; theatrical plays; and other forms of entertainment.Located in downtown California, the opera house/theatre was built in 1885. The building was designed by Jerome Bibb “J.B.” Legg, a well-known St. Louis architect. Legg was responsible for designing many Missouri courthouses, opera houses, theatres, churches, schools and public buildings, as well as remodeling the Missouri State Capitol in 1887.For its significance in the area of entertainment and recreation, The Finke Theatre was named to the National Register of Historic Places. The Finke Theatre and adjacent Finke Building were renovated by community volunteers during the past 10 years. The facilities may be rented for private events.
