Come and take a tour of the longest operating county jail in the State of Missouri. It was built in 1846 and operated until 1978. Famous prisoners have been held here, including Frank James, brother to infamous Missouri outlaw Jesse James.

Included in the tour is the Cooper County Hanging Barn, where men were put to death by hanging. The last public hanging in Missouri took place in this barn in 1930.

Office Hours are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
