The 1827 Log Courthouse in Independence, Missouri.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Frontier Trails Museum will be closed through 2020.

Jackson County’s first government building was constructed using slave labor. For more than 40 years, this was the only courthouse between Independence and the Pacific Ocean.

Harry S. Truman held court here in the 1930s, and the building also served as a Mormon mercantile.
