"Cheers" to Missouri

What better way to enjoy a beautiful Missouri afternoon than on the patio at a Missouri winery? The atmosphere is always pleasant and the wine always top-notch. Most of Missouri’s wineries offer food and music to complete your visit.

Admire splendid views of the Missouri River bottomlands from the bluff-top at Canterbury Hill Winery and Restaurant; seating is available indoors and on the large outdoor patio. Located in Holts Summit (just across the Missouri River from Jefferson City), this picturesque venue serves Missouri wines as well as domestic and imported beers. The tempting bistro menu changes seasonally. The winery hosts live music and special events many evenings.

Turn your winery trip into a relaxing weekend getaway at two quality wineries approximately 25 miles southwest of Ste. Genevieve. Charleville Vineyard and Microbrewery is a lovely winery with an on-site bed and breakfast. Pair your wine with cheese and sausage in the tasting room; also, you may take your own picnic to enjoy on the vineyard’s grounds. Their microbrewery produces award-winning ales, lagers and seasonal beers.

Three miles northwest of Charleville Vineyard, the gorgeous Chaumette Vineyards and Winery offers stellar accommodations in their on-site villas. Chaumette includes a full-service day spa; a poolside cafe; and an award-winning restaurant. Live music is scheduled on summer weekends.

At Fahrmeier Family Vineyards, seven miles south of Lexington, a quaint 1930s barn houses the tasting room. Enjoy wine classes, live music and a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere when you visit this tranquil, bluff-top winery. They have live music spring thru fall.

Located on a farm in Rayville, Van Till Farm and Winery makes a fantastic Friday and Saturday destination. The staff at Van Till serves pizza fresh from a wood-fired oven – the perfect meal to savor with one of Van Till’s nine varieties of wine. The covered patio is a soothing spot for friendly conversation.

Mead, the world’s oldest fermented beverage, is a specialty at Pirtle Winery in Weston. Mead, wine made from honey, is just one of the many delicious treats available at Pirtle Winery; they offer a wide variety of grape and fruit wines as well. Grab a seat in the vine-covered wine garden and enjoy a picnic lunch of warm bread, cheese, fruit and sausage. A 19th century German Lutheran church houses the tasting room and gift shop.

Six miles north of Platte City, Jowler Creek Winery overlooks a scenic, hilly landscape. This winery offers several delicious varieties in the tasting room. They hosts a long list of special events and wine classes throughout the year. Members of their wine club garner unadvertised specials.

The bustling city of Branson features plenty of wonderful destinations, including the 9,200-square-foot tasting and bottling facility of Mount Pleasant Winery. Tour the facilities; sample and purchase their renowned wines; bottle your own dessert wine from a massive French oak barrel. Increase your personal wine knowledge by attending a Wine 101 Class (check the website for schedules). The winery's main location is in Augusta.
