Visit Missouri’s farms and pumpkin patches for a fun family outing.
Author: Stephen Foutes
You need to do a little prepping for the fall season and you’re looking for an outing that’s both fun and productive. Missouri’s farms are a great place to start (and finish!).

With hayrides, activities for kids, farm-fresh food and, of course, a search for the perfect pumpkin, your farm-based shopping trip becomes a full-on Missouri adventure.

The Weston Red Barn Farm (north of Kansas City) is an ideal place to include on your fall-outing itinerary. Labor Day weekend kicked off the fall season at Red Barn Farm, and on Saturdays and Sundays through early November, you find myriad activities. Take a hayride to the pumpkin patch, interact with farm animals in the barnyard, try your luck in the corn maze and find goodies to buy when you visit the Country Store.

Family fun is the top priority for the folks at Beggs Family Farm in Sikeston, where they celebrate the season with a Fall Harvest Festival during the month of October. Activities at Beggs include pig races, wagon rides, a corn maze (this year’s theme is “The Great Pumpkin” and features characters from the Peanuts universe) and shopping for pumpkins and other fall decor. Beggs has limited hours during the week, so be sure to plan accordingly.

A unique experience is found at Where Pigs Fly Farm & Pigs Aloft Museum in Linn (about 25 minutes east of Jefferson City). A day at Where Pigs Fly includes the opportunity to interact with sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, llamas, alpacas and, you guessed it, pigs. While you’re there, don’t miss the chance to see what may be America’s only museum dedicated to pigs – the Pigs Aloft Museum. Also, the farm is hosting a fall festival Oct. 8-9, 2016.

These are just a few places to find fun on the farm in Missouri this fall. Other great fall venues for family fun include:

Lloyd’s Pumpkin Patch in Ashland

Purina Farms in Gray Summit (outside St. Louis)

Rutledge-Wilson Farm Community Park in Springfield

Schweizer Orchards in St. Joseph
