No matter your favorite genre, Missouri has a song for you
Author: Stephen Foutes
It’s date night and you’re ready for a little live music. No matter which genre your date prefer, Missouri has a venue and a treasure-trove of talented musicians to keep you singing and dancing all night.

Of course, no discussion of live music in Missouri is complete without mentioning Branson, so let’s start there!

Long known for its amazing theaters and performers, Branson’s stars are well-versed in all genres of music. Perhaps there’s no better example than Ayo, starring Voices of Glory, which has been lauded as one of the top shows in Branson. The talented trio of Michael, Avery and Nadia Cole perform everything from pop and soul to jazz and gospel tunes.

Most of Ayo’s performances are early in the day, leaving you plenty of time to have a romantic meal at the Dobyns Dining Room at College of the Ozarks and to explore one of Branson’s fabulous resorts. In fact, Travel+Leisure just named Big Cedar Lodge the No. 1 Resort in the Midwest.

A few hours north of Branson, in Kansas City, jazz clubs have long been a staple of the city’s music scene. One of the city’s most-popular is the Green Lady Lounge, where there’s open seating and live music seven nights a week. You won’t find a cover charge at the Green Lady, but you will need to find one thing: stamina. This jazz club is open until 3 a.m.

Before you visit the Green Lady, pay a visit to Grunauer, where authentic German cuisine is served up for hungry patrons, or if you need a little breakfast after a late-night/early-morning show, check out Chubby’s On Broadway, a 24-hour eatery with a fantastic breakfast menu that includes must-haves like biscuits and gravy.

Across the state in St. Louis, stay up late when you visit The Pageant, a popular nightspot on the Delmar Loop in St. Louis. The venue hosts all kinds of music and performers and is a great place to see hip-hop shows.

The Delmar Loop is an excellent spot for enjoying date night. You can bowl a game or two at Pin-Up Bowl, see more live music (and enjoy a cheeseburger, if you’re so inclined) at Blueberry Hill and get a good night’s sleep at the Moonrise Hotel.

For more live-music fun, combined with dinner and an overnight, visit:

• Columbia, where you find live music at Blue Note, great meals at Murry’s (which has live jazz music five nights a week) and indulge in the cozy confines of The Tiger Hotel.

• Springfield, where concerts of all types play at The Outland Complex, memorable meals are served up at Metropolitan Grill and you can rest your head at Hotel Vandivort.

These are just a few of the great places to enjoy a date night or a long weekend with live music and fine dining in the Show-Me State. Keep exploring to learn more and start planning your Missouri adventure today.
