Author: MDT Staff

In Missouri, summertime means sunshine, baseball and other sporting events. How better to spend a summer evening than cheering for the home team from a great spot in the stands? How about getting into the action yourself?

In Kansas City, the Royals offer the excitement of big league baseball. While enjoying all the action of an American League game, you don't have to cure your hunger with merely peanuts and Cracker Jack – vendors at the stadium dish up world-famous Kansas City barbecue and lots of other goodies. For a special treat, fans can take a variety of tours of Kauffman Stadium.

Across the state, in St. Louis, the St. Louis Cardinals show off the skills that frequently make them the top team in the National League's Central Division. Cheer for the Cards as you admire the beautiful brick architecture of Busch Stadium, with the famed Gateway Arch as a backdrop. When the Cardinals win, fireworks explode over the stadium, adding to the magic of the evening. Busch Stadium Tours are offered. On June 13, 2015, the Cardinals host the KC Royals for an afternoon game.

Want to watch the next generation of baseball legends? Head to Springfield to catch an exciting game of Springfield Cardinals Double-A Baseball; a minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. There's a good chance some of these players will soon be headed to Busch Stadium and Major League stardom.

On May 30, join cycling and culture enthusiasts on a nine-and-a-half mile bicycle ride through St. Louis. Loads of fun activities are planned along the way. Dubbed the Trailnet Art Bike Ride Tour de Museum, this mini-scavenger hunt visits major St. Louis museums, beginning and ending at the Kemper Art Museum.

Not into baseball? No problem. How about the excitement of rodeo? On select days, May through August 6, 2015, the Ozark Family Rodeo fills the Pioneer Saddle Club arena in West Plains. There are fun and entertaining western events for all ages.

Mark your calendar for the 2015 Show-Me State Games, held at various venues in and around Columbia. The senior games are June 12-14; other age groups are July 17-19 and 24-26. These Olympic-style events, featuring feats of skill and endurance in more than 40 sports, are open to amateurs of all ages. Spectators are welcomed and encouraged.

January through July, the excitement never stops when the Arch Rival Roller Girls take to the track in St. Louis for the thrilling sport of roller derby.

In July, the Western Conference Champions Springfield Lasers play their season of professional tennis.

Don't forget Missouri's big three fall and winter professional teams: St. Louis Rams football; Kansas City Chiefs football; and St. Louis Blues hockey. Follow their websites and get your tickets early.
