Beautiful spring weather provides the perfect excuse for a shopping excursion. After all, what better time for new clothes, new shoes, and perhaps a new purse (or three)? You’ll find all of that – and many other selections – in Missouri’s great shops.

The always-hopping college town of Columbia boasts dozens of stores within the 43 square block area known as, The District. Put together eye-catching outfits at such boutiques as Elly’s Couture, Swank Boutique and Britches Clothing. These fashion-forward stores carry great pieces from up-and-coming designers, meaning you won’t be stuck wearing the same ensemble as three other people at the party. Treat your artsy side to a visit to Columbia’s North Village Arts District. More than 100 artists call this part of town their creative home. See a live performance; grab a bite at the farmers market; visit the music school; and drop in at the art studios.

Purchase wearable art, among many other creations, at Glass Moose. This shop, located in the Lake of the Ozarks town of Laurie, features a large inventory of lovely items. Examine the artwork by owners Les and Sandy Burnett, including jewelry, stained glass, lamps and metal art. Do-it-yourselfers jewelry makers will absolutely love the selection of beads and beading supplies.

Indulge your sense of whimsy (and your love of beauty) at the Zuzak Wonder Store, in downtown Boonville. Just off the Katy Trail, this shop offers a wide variety of artistic creations. Take home a piece of original art, such as a photograph, a ceramic piece, jewelry and other treasures. For that hands-on experience, sign up for one of Zuzak’s workshops and classes.

Set aside an afternoon to explore the shops in Maplewood, a hip area, 12 minutes from downtown St. Louis boasting a multi-block stretch of one-of-a-kind spots. Pamper yourself with items from Maven, selling delicious-smelling bath products, cosmetics and candles. Spoil yourself even further (you deserve it!) with a beautiful box of salted-caramel truffles from Kakao, one of the region’s most acclaimed chocolatiers. The pooch in your life will appreciate a souvenir from Airdale Antics, offering high-quality treats and toys for your four-legged friends. Take a much needed break at Schlafly Bottleworks, a unique restaurant and microbrewery. Live music is often scheduled inside, and in the large outdoor biergarten.

Any fashionista will love a trip to Plaza Frontenac, an upscale St. Louis shopping center with many of the nation’s top brands. Home to more than 40 shops, including Missouri’s only Neiman Marcus, Plaza Frontenac offers a luxurious shopping experience from the minute you step through the doors. Whether you’re looking for that “It” bag at Louis Vuitton or upgrading your yoga wardrobe at Lululemon, you’ll leave happy. Plaza Frontenac features an art-house cinema and a variety of outstanding restaurants.

Treat your group to an afternoon of beauty at The Avon Store in Springfield. No need to wait for a catalog or the iconic ringing doorbell – you’ll find all of the products right there. Choose from a wide array of cosmetics, fragrances, skincare, hair products and jewelry.

Also in Springfield, LaBelle Beauty Boutique offers plenty of salon products, plus you can pamper your feet and hands with pedicures and manicures. You’ll find cute clothes here, too. After a little pampering, stop in at Staxx, a unique boutique clothing store in Springfield offering chic women’s fashion. Consistently named “best clothing boutique” in the area by 417 Magazine, you’ll find it hard to walk out empty-handed.

Pair fabulous shopping with fresh air as you stroll through the Zona Rosa Shopping District, on the north side of Kansas City. A village-like feel and plenty of green-space make Zona Rosa a relaxing place to shop. Plenty of top retailers have stores there. Browse unique boutiques such as Hot Mama and La-De-Da. When all that shopping stokes your appetite, grab lunch at one of several on-site restaurants, including Swagat Fine Indian Cuisine, Stone Canyon Pizza and Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy. Zona Rosa’s community-mindedness extends to its parking meters – proceeds from the meters are donated to local charities.

Find shopping nirvana at the Lake of the Ozarks. Osage Beach Premium Outlets is home to more than 110 stores, selling something for absolutely everyone. Expand your wardrobe at BCBG Max Azaria, Chico’s, Gap and other fashionable spots. Treat yourself to a new pair of shoes at the Nine West Outlet. Pick up some pampering goodies at Bath & Body Works. Take home some goodies from Harry and David. Just be sure to leave yourself plenty of time – you’ll be amazed by all the great shopping there.

You’ll be wowed by the variety of shopping options in Branson. Known around the world for its live shows, this town is also home to great retailers: at Branson Landing, on the shores of Lake Taneycomo, shop in 100 specialty stores, dine in numerous restaurants, and enjoy loads of live entertainment; find great deals on high-end brands like Banana Republic and Coach at Tanger Outlets; stroll through the Shoppes at Branson Meadows, a variety of outlet and specialty stores in a beautiful Victorian layout.

Pair shopping with some time-travel when you visit the Downtown Liberty Shopping District. This wonderful destination seamlessly blends old and new, with 21st-century shops in historic buildings. Update your wardrobe with outfits from designer boutiques. Add timeless flair to your home with gorgeous antiques. Be sure to set aside time to treat yourself – this shopping district holds restaurants, salons and massage studios.
