The Swartz family, from Omaha, traveled to Missouri to find adventure. And, boy, did they find it! You can take their trip as well – check out the stops in the list below and follow their vacation here.
St. Joseph Area
Shatto Milk Company – The crew started their trip at a family-owned dairy farm in Osborn. Shatto Milk offers tours of its farm and bottling facility, where guests can view the cows that produce the delicious milk. Afterwards, visitors can taste ice cream and a rainbow of milk flavors.
Patee House Museum and Jesse James Home – The Patee House Museum in St. Joseph takes visitors back to the 1860s-1880s. Climb aboard an 1860 train and ride a vintage carousel, and walk down a street modeled to look like Old St. Jo. A block away, visit the Jesse James Home, where the infamous outlaw was shot.
Pony Express National Museum – St. Joseph was the starting point of the Pony Express, and the Swartz family was able to explore the Pikes Peak Stables where it all began. Visitors can experience interactive, state-of-the-art exhibits that chronicle the story behind the Pony Express.
Kansas City Area
College Basketball Experience – This isn’t your typical Hall of Fame – the College Basketball Experience is just that, an experience! The Swartz Family specifically enjoyed the skills tests and the broadcast desk, all exhibits that you can take part in with a visit!
Il Lazzarone Pizzeria – For a spin on family pizza night, visit Il Lazzarone, where the tastes are authentic and the atmosphere can’t be beat. The pizza oven, and the flour for every pizza crust, has been imported straight from Naples.
Kauffman Stadium Tour – The Swartz family couldn’t make it to a game, but they made it for the next best thing – a tour of the World Champion’s stadium! The Royal's Kauffman Stadium tour often includes the dugout, the press box, the interview room and more, depending on availability.
B.B.’s Lawnside BBQ – Take it from the Swartz family – B.B.’s is a must-do in Kansas City! This establishment, featured on multiple TV shows, combines blues music and delicious barbecue for the ultimate, and delectable, family experience.
National World War I Museum and Memorial – Visit the only American museum dedicated solely to preserving the history of World War I. This museum tells the story through the eyes that lived it, from beginning to end. After you explore the museum, travel to the top of the Liberty Memorial Tower for one of the best views in the city.
Oceans of Fun – Two parks in one, Oceans of Fun and Worlds of Fun are great family attractions. Oceans of Fun offers thrills for all ages, from the new Splash Island, a zero depth water attraction, to multiple slides.
Ambiance on the Water at Country Club Plaza – Parents will enjoy an evening away on the water, with a romantic trip in a Venetian style Gondola. View the Country Club Plaza from the canal as you float beneath bridges and past beautiful fountains.
Missouri State Fair – The Swartz’s final stop was in Sedalia, at the Missouri State Fair. This exciting week includes a variety of attractions, ranging from agricultural feats, to an expansive midway, to varied musical concerts.
