Storybook Day at the Park: The Road Home at Graham Cave State Park
May
11

May is a month full of new life emerging in the natural world throughout Missouri State Parks. As life springs out of nearly every hill and valley of Graham Cave State Park, important parent-child bonds are developing between mothers and babies. Moms and some dads in the wild take on an important role of nourishing, teaching and protecting their new young.

On May 11, park naturalists will honor this special relationship by featuring the children's picture book "The Road Home," by Katie Cotton, as a self-guided hike. Visitors who complete this special hike will enjoy a few hours of exploring Graham Cave Loop Trail. After the hike, visitors can stop by the visitor center to experience fun learning activities, interactive displays and craft projects centered on baby animals and animal homes.

Activities and displays include:

Make your own bird's nest
What's that baby's name?
Live ant farm
Animal homes
All about eggs
"Orphaned" babies and what to do
And more...

Graham Cave Loop Trail is a 0.3-mile moderate level hike, which starts at the lower parking lot. We encourage you to dress weather appropriate for the hike. Insect repellent is recommended. All activities for this event are free and open to the public. Special accommodations will be provided. For information on accessibility, please contact the park at 573-564-3476.
