TWIN PINES CONSERVATION EDUCATION CENTER PROGRAMS FOR JUNE 2019

Note:  The programs described below have age group and class size limits listed in the program description. Reservations are required.

Pine Needlers----Thursday, June 6, 2019----10:30 a.m. to Noon and 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The prairie is home to a wide variety of plants, animals, birds and insects.  With that in mind, the Pine Needlers ninth block for a themed quilt now focuses on the meadow lark. A robin-sized bird with a bright yellow breast marked with a black V, this bird is best known for its call. So join the Twin Pines staff and learn more about this favorite prairie resident. This program is designed for ages 16 and up. Under 18 must have a parent or guardian present. Class size limit of 15.

Wild Things----Saturday, June 8, 2019----9 a.m. to Noon

If you enjoy being creative and all things rustic, what better way to add a special piece to your home than to put it together yourself. Join Twin Pines volunteer, Linda Strauch and make a broom using sassafras and native grasses common to the Missouri Ozarks. Materials are provided.  This program is designed for ages 16 and up. Under 18 must have a parent or guardian present. Class size limit of 10.

Little Stinkers Storytime----Wednesday, June 26, 2019----10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Join Little Stinkers as the group takes a look at the daily life of a box turtle through the book, "Box Turtle at Long Pond," by William T. George.  Find out how the turtle uses what is in his environment to make a meal, only to lose that meal in order to avoid being eaten by a raccoon. Written from the turtle's perspective, this story is a great introduction to pond ecology.  Then stay and enjoy the Turtle Box Races. This program is designed for the preschool child up to second grade. Class size limit of 25.

Nature Nuts-----Wednesday, June 26, 2019-----2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Vertebrate?  Invertebrate?  What's that?  Join the Nature Nuts and learn the difference between these two divisions of the animal kingdom and the types of animals that make up these groups. Be sure to wear clothing and shoes appropriate for the outdoors.  Nature Nuts is designed for ages 7 to 12. Class size limit of 25.
