Our 6th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting & Lantern Walk is a Hermann tradition, held the Saturday following Thanksgiving.
This holiday tradition goes back to the story of St. Martin, who gave his cloak and lantern to a beggar, celebrated on Feast Day, November 11. In Hermann, the little kids and the young of heart decorate lanterns that they carry along our downtown parade route singing Christmas Songs as they walk to the Hofgarten, at the corner of Gutenberg & 1st Street, to see the lighting of our outdoor Christmas Tree and a visit from Santa.
