Find En'Lichenment' Hike at Graham Cave State Park
Jun
15

Lichen is an amazing combination of primarily algae and fungus that can be found in many shapes, colors and on all sorts of substrates. Naturalist Lorie Volenberg will explain to you what lichens are and what roles they play in the environment. You will be introduced to the basics of identification by learning about morphological characteristics of lichen, and by using liquid reagents for testing. Hand lenses, liquid reagents and other tools will be provided. You are encouraged to bring a notepad and pencil for writing notes.

The hike will take place on the .3-mile, moderately rugged Fern Ridge Trail. Meet at the lower parking lot near the vault toilets. Participants should wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, bring a bottle of water and wear insect repellent.
