Join us on the Hermitage side of Pomme de Terre State Park on Saturday, Oct. 16 for our Bicentennial Bash: "A Historic Halloween." Activities will include a costume contest, a campsite decorating contest, and campsite trick-or-treating.

The costume contest is open to campground guests, with prizes awarded in two categories: kids up to age 12 in any costume and guests aged 12 and up dressed as a famous Missouri figure or legend or in clothing representing a specific time in Missouri's history over the past 200 years. Judging will begin at 4 p.m. at the Hermitage amphitheater. Immediately following the judging, winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded.

Registered campers are eligible to participate in a best-decorated Halloween campsite contest. Campsite decorating should be completed by 4 p.m. Judging will be conducted after 4 p.m. First-, second- and third-place winners will receive a prize at their campsite, along with a yard sign to display that will announce the winners of the campsite decorating contest.

Park staff will close the Hermitage campground entrance to vehicle traffic at 4:30 p.m. to allow trick-or-treaters to make their way through the campground. Campers are encouraged to provide pre-packaged, easy-to-grab candy for trick-or-treaters.

This is one of many events Missouri State Parks is hosting to commemorate the state's bicentennial.
