The historic site and the Monroe County Historical Society will be hosting their 3rd Annual Salt River Quilt Show inside the Mark Twain Memorial Shrine. Quilts will wind their way through the museum's two galleries, past the shrine's newly-renovated exhibits.
This year's theme is "Reach for the Stars," as Mark Twain State Park is becoming known as a skywatcher's destination. A quilt challenge is being issued for star quilts (in any size) pieced, appliqued or embroidered. Other quilt categories will include lakes and waterways of Missouri, children's quilts, other quilted items (non-bed quilt) and miscellaneous quilts. The quilts will be judged in each category and prizes awarded.
Visitors can browse the offerings of quilt and fabric-related vendors outdoors and enjoy lunch under the trees on the lovely museum grounds. Food vendors will be available as well. Live presentations will be offered daily, and a quilt appraiser will be available for appraisals and consultations.
Admission to the quilt show and presentations is free, but donations will be accepted. For questions, quilt entry forms and vendor applications, call Marianne Bodine at 573-565-3449.
