Come to the park to take a guided hike on the prairie and see bison. The prairie changes during each season. Meet at the Regal Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center. Don't forget your cameras!

Be prepared for a two-mile hike over uneven terrain. Bringing water, snacks, insect repellent, a hat and sunscreen, and wearing sturdy shoes is recommended. Binoculars will be useful in looking at bison as well as other wildlife that we may see.

There are several bison hikes throughout the year:

  • Feb. 6 -The prairie in the winter can be a great place for solitude.
  • March 5 - Visit as the prairie begins to wake up after a long slumber.
  • April 2 - The bison are ready to have their calves.
  • May 7 - Calving should be going on; maybe you'll see some.
  • June 4 - The bison are busy with their new calves.
  • July 2 - Wildflowers and bison abound.
  • Aug. 6 - See the bison in their native habitat.
  • Sept. 10 - Fall is nearly here and cooler temperatures can't be far off.
  • Nov. 5 - Cooler temperatures are great for hiking.
  • Dec. 3 - Get a jump on winter and take a hike to see the bison.
