Wine or Beer? Missouri Festivals Have What You Want This Fall

August 19, 2019

Most people associate summer with beer – there's nothing better on a blistering Missouri summer day than an ice-cold brew. Though, when the day cooled and the moon came up, nothing beats having a glass of wine in hand by a fire watching the lightning bugs glow. With Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer) in the rearview mirror, and the official start of fall just around the corner, it is the perfect time to enjoy the Show-Me State's fall wine and beer festivals!

To start the brew season off right, Sept. 7, Washington Jaycees 13th Annual Brewfest will feature more than 50 microbrew beers from more than 20 regional breweries available for sampling, plus live music, food and even mixed drinks for sale.

One week later, Sept. 14, KC Beer Fest in the Power and Light District will feature more than 200 hand-picked craft beers from around the world, rare keg tappings, live music and gourmet food.

Fast forward to the end of September and the weekends of October and you'll find ample opportunities to celebrate Oktoberfest in Belton, Hermann, Lee's Summit, Rolla and Westport.

As Show-Me State natives know, there are always some hot fall days that just beg for a cold one. Even better, quench that thirst with the eagerly-anticipated specialty autumn beers (looking at you, pumpkin spice!) hitting the brew pubs.

If you tend to fancy wine over beer, there are many festivals to explore and taste locally produced wines that celebrate the bounty of the season.

If you want to get your feet messy while having fun, Jowler Creek Winery is holding their 9th Annual Grape Stomp Sept. 6-8 and 13-15. Les Bourgeois Vineyards will host their annual Crush Festival featuring Trout Steak Revival Oct. 5-6 where you can also experience some "Grape-Stomping Fun!"

Need an idea for a romantic autumn date? Take your special someone to the Augusta Harvest Festival's "Fruit of the Harvest Wine Makers' Dinner" on Sept. 21 where you can savor a multicourse gourmet meal with dessert and wine pairings featuring local farm-to-table ingredients. Regional winemakers mingle with the diners and introduce their wines. Make sure to book early as there is limited space!

Check out these exciting upcoming festivals for yourself – and enjoy local award-winning wines and thirst-quenching beers.

Cheers!
