Lafayette Park, the focal point of the Lafayette Square neighborhood, was the first park west of the Mississippi River. In 1973, Congress placed Lafayette Square on the National Register of Historic Places. A variety of special events take place during warmer weather, including free concerts and outdoor movies.

Forest Park opened June 24, 1876. At 1,293 acres, it is one of the largest urban parks in the U.S., nearly 500 acres larger than Central Park in New York City. It is home to the world famous Saint Louis Zoo, museums, trails and other attractions. Adjacent to Forest Park, the Central West End (CWE) is a historic neighborhood, more than a century-old. Anchored by the world famous Cathedral Basilica, the area is filled with stately historic homes, attractive shopping and delightful restaurants.

Finish the afternoon with a stroll through the Art Deco greenhouse filled with permanent floral displays, tropical trees and foliage supplemented with seasonal flowers. Built by the City of St. Louis in 1936, it is listed on the National Historic Register.
