Trip Ideas: Dining Out with MoTravelGuy
If you follow @MoTravelGuy on Twitter, you know he enjoys to eat. A lot. Here's a peek at some of the eateries he's visited in the Show-Me State. A winery and brewery are thrown in for good measure.
Breakfast
One of the best things about a restful night at The Elms is getting up to eat breakfast at the newly remodeled Eighty-Eight at The Elms. Whatever your breakfast pleasure, MoTravelGuy suggests you get an order of the breakfast potatoes. These little gems are a delightful way to start the day.
401 Regent St., Excelsior Springs MO 64024, 800-843-3567
Hours: Breakfast service begins at 7 a.m.
If you like a big, full breakfast with lots of options, look no further than the Black Bear Lodge at Tan-Tar-A, on the Lake of the Ozarks. When you sit down, get ready for the long haul. Eggs. Sausage. Biscuits. Omelets. That's just the tip of the iceberg. They even have fruit, if you're so inclined.
494 Tan-Tar-A Drive, Osage Beach MO 65065, 800-826-8272
Hours: Breakfast service begins at 7 a.m. daily
MoTravelGuy is a firm believer that cake, pies and cookies are acceptable breakfast foods. That in mind, he suggests ordering a big slice of the Gooey Butter Cheesecake at The Blue Owl. If you're a more traditional breakfast fan, don't worry. You will find plenty to eat.
6116 Second St., Kimmswick MO 63053, 636-464-3128
Hours: Tues.-Fri., 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Sat.-Sun., 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Lunch
If there's one word to describe the food at Pappy's, it's amazable. Yes, a combination of amazing and incredible. If you wait until supper time to dine out here, you might be out of luck. Get there early. Voted one of the 101 Best Places to Chow Down in America by The Travel Channel.
3106 Olive St., St. Louis MO 63103, 314-535-4340
Hours: Mon.-Sat., 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sun., 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Danna's is a great place for barbecue and burgers. A repeat visitor here, MoTravelGuy is torn between the delicious pulled pork sandwich (and platters featuring pulled pork) and the burgers, particularly the one that's topped with a handful of jalapenos (it's not on the menu, but is sometimes listed as one of the specials).
963 Route 165, Branson MO 65616, 417-337-5527
Hours: Mon.-Sat., 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
No food-focused trip is complete without a pizza place - Shakespeare's just happens to be one of the best there is. In addition to awesome pizza, Shakespeare's has great atmosphere; it's located just off the University of Missouri campus. The spot is well-known locally and Good Morning America once crowned it the best college hangout in the nation.
225 S. Ninth St, Columbia MO 65205, 573-449-2454
Hours: Sun.-Thu., 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Fri.-Sat., 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
Dinner
Gram and Dun offers an upscale dining experience in the beautiful Country Club Plaza area of Kansas City. The extensive menu has lots of options; MoTravelGuy enjoys the fried chicken and waffles. That's not a typo.
600 Ward Parkway, Kansas City MO 64112, 816-389-2900
Hours: Mon., 11 a.m.-midnight; Tue.-Fri., 11 a.m.-1:30 a.m.; Sat., 9:30 a.m.-1:30 a.m.; Sun., 9:30 a.m.-midnight.
The Cave Restaurant is located inside a cave. This is a full-service restaurant serving steaks, barbecue, seafood and Italian fare. The restaurant seats 225. There is live music many Friday and Saturday nights. This is a bucket-list stop for MoTravelGuy; friends have told him its an experience to enjoy.
26880 Rochester Road, Richland MO 65556, 573-765-4554
Hours: 11:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
MoTravelGuy encourages you not to overdo it on chips and salsa because your meal portion will be plentiful - and delicious. Oh, and they've got a couple of different heat levels on their salsa - the hot really is hot.
406 South Ave., Springfield MO 65806, 417-831-9339
Hours: Mon.-Thur., 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Fri.-Sat., 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
The brews here are excellent; in the warm months, MoTravelGuy enjoys the Summer Lager. Year-round, a favorite menu item is Bison Nachos. There are not enough superlatives to describe them.

Hours: Mon.-Tue., 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Wed.-Sat., 11 a.m.-midnight
Stone Hill's Vignoles sits near, or perhaps atop, MoTravelGuy's list of favorite Missouri wines. It's a semi-sweet wine and goes well with a variety of foods. Another bucket-list stop for MoTravelGuy; he's enjoyed the wine, but not yet had the pleasure of dining here.
1110 Stone Hill Highway, Hermann MO 65041, 800-909-9463
Hours: Mon.-Thu., 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; Fri.-Sat., 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sun., 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
