The Quad
Visit the Historic Francis Quadrangle on the University of Missouri’s campus. Walk through “The Quad” to view the historic free-standing columns that reach toward the sky, all that is left from the old Academic Hall that caught fire in 1892.

This museum features an eclectic collection of ancient art and artifacts and major works by European and American painters. Themed rooms feature Byzantine and medieval art and modern and contemporary art. Impressive plaster casts of well-known Greek and Roman statues are featured in a lower level gallery.

Also located on the MU quad, the artifacts at this museum open your eyes to American Indian life and history. Learn about the tools and weapons that native Missourians used and the distinct pottery they created. Then step into the pioneer days and observe the household goods, children’s toys, clothing and agricultural tools from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The museum also features an array of artifacts from Central and South America, Asia, Africa and various Oceanic cultures. Expand your knowledge as you navigate through these fascinating cultures.

Enjoy the always creative artist display space of the University of Missouri’s Art Department. Become entranced by the wide variety of works in different mediums from various artists. Artist receptions are usually held on Thursdays and Fridays to give you a chance to listen to the artist(s) speak about their work and their inspiration.

The largest collection of paintings by George Caleb Bingham and various bold colored paintings by Thomas Hart Benton are displayed. There are also lithographs and a collection of catchy editorial and political cartoons done by Missouri artists, as well as an extensive collection of photographs, drawings, engravings and maps from the Missouri and trans-Mississippi West.

Grab a bite to eat at one of the various food locations located on Mizzou’s campus. Perhaps the Wheatstone Bistro located in Memorial Union North, where you will find delicious sandwiches, wraps and salads. The Baja Grill offers tacos, burritos and Spanish-style rice.

As you walk the lower level halls, examine the collection of animal displays. You can learn about each animal’s habitat and population and match it to the animal on display. Then head upstairs to the Enns Entomology Museum.

With approximately 6 million specimens of insects, arachnids and fossils, you’ll find some interesting creatures you’ve never seen before! Most specimens come from the Ozark Plateau and other Missouri and Midwestern localities, but there are also a few exotic specimens. View each magnificent creature and their vibrant colors and interesting anatomies.

Attend an inspiring show put on by the University of Missouri Concert Series at Jesse Hall. A wide variety of captivating plays, exciting concerts and animated shows are available. Jesse Hall was opened in 1895 to replace the old Academic Hall that burned to the ground in 1892.
