This 18-hole golf facility, set in rolling hills, has a challenging front nine carved out of forest and wetlands; and a scenic back nine that offers links-style golf with dramatic changes in elevation. The two-story courthouse, built in 1873, houses the courtroom where the Ford brothers were tried for the murder of Jesse James. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Experience Chillicothe’s history through these 17 larger than life scenes; a unique way to transform the streetscape of a community is through artistic renderings on barren walls.

The themes include the Utica Brick Plant; Sports; and historical depictions of Chillicothe as it existed in 1928—the year we became the Home of Sliced Bread.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is considered one of the top art museums in the United States. The Nelson-Atkins features one of America’s finest collections of Asian art, as well as extensive collections of American, American Indian, Egyptian, and European art.

The Steven Holl-designed Bloch Building contains galleries of contemporary and African art, photography, and special exhibits. Enjoy art outdoors at the Kansas City Sculpture Park, a collection of sculptures by many of the 20th century’s finest artists.

In the Patee House Museum, you can climb aboard an 1860 train and ride a vintage carousel—indoors. The museum houses an 1877 railroad depot; a stagecoach; automobiles; trucks; fire trucks; wagons; buggies and carriages; a horse-drawn hearse; a real gallows; a blacksmith shop; the dressmaker's shop; model railroads; antique furniture and toys; western art; and a wing designed to look like the streets of Old St. Jo in the 1860s-1880s.

Constructed in 1858 as a luxury hotel, the building has been a hotel three times; a girls college twice; the Union Army Provost Marshal's office during the Civil War; the headquarters for the Pony Express; and a shirt factory.

On April 3, 1860, a lone rider, the first of his kind, left Pikes Peak Stables in St. Joseph, marking the start of the Pony Express. Brave riders, carrying saddlebags filled with our nation's hopes and dreams, traveled more than 2,000 miles west to California.

Today, the stables house a modern, interactive and educational tribute to the history and legend of the Pony Express. Experience exciting, educational, state-of-the-art exhibits chronicling the need, creation, operation and termination of the Pony Express. Whatever your age, you’re sure to be captivated by the stories and images of an era long passed. A 60-foot diorama depicts the diverse terrain over which the riders traveled.

Sea Life Kansas City Aquarium transports you into an amazing underwater world. Come nose to nose with sharks and prepare for astonishingly close views of everything from humble starfish and seahorses to graceful rays. To get any closer you'd have to get wet.

For forty years, this was the last courthouse between Independence and the Pacific Ocean. Harry S Truman held court here in the 1930s. Also, it served as a Mormon mercantile.

Visit Kansas City's oldest remaining brick residence located in historic Westport. The Greek Revival mansion, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built by early Westport settlers, John and Henrietta Harris. The house stands prominately on the Battle of Westport Civil War Battlefield. In the fall of 1861, the Harris home was used as headquaters for the Union Army. The house and grounds have been restored to their 1850s appearence. Visit our website for a list of monthly living-history events. Group tours are welcome.

The dungeon-like cells of the jail housed thousands of prisoners during the bloodiest time in Jackson County's history, including Frank James and William Quantrill. An 1870s schoohouse completes the site. Closed November and January-March.

This museum, in a former school, documents the history of Agency, from the 1836 Platte Purchase to the present. After the Platte Purchase, Agency Ford was a thriving community, but, slowly, flooding caused the town to nearly vanish. Open by appointment.
