The Hartville Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Hartville host a Civil War reenactment to commemorate the Battle of Hartville, fought on Jan. 11, 1863.

The reenactment camps and "Civil War Period vendors" are on the property surrounding the Steele Mansion, which is a privately owned historical home in Hartville. The mansion was built by a confederate soldier after the war. The property surrounding the mansion is where confederate troops were camped during the Battle of Hartville.

On Friday, all area schools are invited to attend "school day" at the reenactment camps, where children can tour the camps to see how the solders lived and fought. The camps are open to the public all weekend. Battles are fought throughout the weekend at the Steele Mansion property; however, one battle is on the streets of Hartville, where the actual Battle of Hartville took place.

There is a Civil War times ball Saturday evening, hosted on the front lawn of the Steele Mansion. There are many other activities planned.

Admission is free. Visit our website for details.
