The white water area of the St. Francis River, both lovely and exciting. Water cascades over a historic dam at the abandoned silver mine and 200-foot bluffs loom over the one-mile scenic hiking trail. There is a one-mile long trail along each side of the river. From Turkey Creek Picnic Area, a 1.2 mile trail to the north leads to Millstream Garden Conservation Area, managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
66 campsites with 9 double sites and 1 is a group site, each with table, lantern post and fire ring. Some site have electrical hookups available and some sites support RV and trailers up to 40 feet in length. Drinking Water and Vault Toilets are centrally located. Two picnic areas each containing 5 picnic units, each with picnic table and grill.

Mingo National Wildlife Refuge is the largest remaining tract of bottomland hardwood forest (21,592 acres) in southeast Missouri. The Mingo Swamp and adjacent hills are nestled in a linear basin formed in an ancient abandoned channel of the Mississippi River. The Refuge includes 7,730 acres of federally designated wilderness and has a rich abundance of native plants and wildlife, such as white-tailed deer, wood ducks, butterflies, small reptiles and bald eagles. Activities at Mingo include wildlife observation on a seasonal 20-mile auto tour route, hiking, canoeing, photography, fishing, hunting, and participating in environmental educational programs and exhibits at the Refuge Visitor Center. This 9,027 acre wilderness is part of the St. Francois Mountains, one of the oldest landforms in North America. The wilderness is named for a family that once lived and farmed along the ridge top that is now known as Bell Mountain.
