A one-mile walking trail runs along the Roubidoux River from Waynesville Park to Laughlin Park. There are pavillions, restrooms, playground equipment, easy river access and a spring fed cave.

Radiocarbon dating indicates the park's shelter cave was inhabited more than 10,000 years ago. The park, two miles west of Danville along the Loutre River, features camping, hiking and mountain biking trails, fishing, a boat ramp and picnicking.

This park is home to a spectacular show cave, which is a National Natural Landmark. Tours are offered March through October. The park also features Meramec River access, camping, scenic hiking trails, a lake, and picnic sites and a shelter. Cave Tours: 573-245-6600. The park is located seven miles southeast of I-44 on Route H.

Missouri's largest state park has 89 miles of shoreline, two swimming beaches, boat-launching areas, marinas, campgrounds, camper cabins, a yurt, hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails, tours of Ozark Caverns, trail rides and organized group camps.

Meramec State Park, located along the Meramec River, is a favorite with canoeists and fishermen. It features a store/grill, a visitor center, hiking and backpacking trails, cabins, a motel with a conference center, canoe and raft rentals and camping. There are more than 40 caves in the park; guided tours are given of Fisher Cave. The park is three miles south of Sullivan on Route 185.

Fascinating geologic formations are the principal features of this 2,272-acre day-use park. Visit Devil’s Icebox Cave, the seventh longest in Missouri. A boardwalk and other trails lead to the natural rock bridge; numerous sinkholes and springs; through prairies and woods. There are trails for hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers, when conditions allow. Wild cave tours of Devil's Icebox Cave are given for a limited time in the spring and fall. Marvel Cave, a Registered Natural Landmark, opened for tours in 1894. The cave, which lies beneath Silver Dollar City theme park, was the first attraction to bring tourists to the Branson area. One of the deepest caves in Missouri, it has one of the largest subterranean entry-rooms in the United States. Tours are included at no additional cost with admission to Silver Dollar City.

Cameron Cave offers a different and exciting underground adventure. You will tour the cave by lantern light, seeing it as it was when first discovered; the only changes made were those necessary to make the tour more comfortable and to meet Missouri State Safety regulations for show caves. This guided tour takes you through this complex maze cave. The tour lasts 1.5 hours. This is a unique cave experience. Open Memorial Day-Labor Day. Co-located with Mark Twaine Cave; one mile south of Hannibal on Route 79.

Beautiful cave formations and the silent beauty of the underground world. Tours Memorial Day through Labor Day; limit of 15 people per tour. Dress warmly and wear good walking shoes. Traditional, children's, and adult tours are offered, all using hand-held lanterns. Bats, salamanders and interesting cave formations are features of this cave. Located in Lake of the Ozarks State Park, eight miles east of Linn Creek, off of Route A. Open April 16-Oct. 14.

This cave includes a variety of outstanding cave formations, including columns of calcite deposits up to 30 feet tall. The park offers camping, dining, canoeing, lodging, trails and picnicking. Located within Meramec State Park, off Route 185.

Miller Cave is part of a cave complex in the bluffs above the Big Piney River along the southern boundary of Ft. Leonard Wood. Geologically, this area is part of the northern Ozark Highland (Salem Plateau) region of the Missouri Ozarks. Ordovician-age dolomites and sandstones have been uplifted, incised, and dissolved by ground water for about 200 million years, forming steep-sided bluffs and numerous caves and rock shelters, known as karst features. This cave contains archaeological evidence that people occupied this area between 7,000 B.C. and A.D. 1400. Artifacts from this cave are displayed in the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.

Onondaga Cave, a National Natural Landmark within Onondaga Cave State Park, is recognized as one of the most spectacular caves in the nation because of the quality of its formations. Cave Tours, March-October.

Cave has a variety of formations including stalactites, stalagmites, sawtooth drapes, soda straws and flowstone. The museum showcases large rocks, minerals, fossils, arrowheads and antiques. Pan for gemstones and fossils. The museum is wheelchair accessible. Price of admission includes a 45 minute guided tour of the cavern and entry into the museum. Two miles south of Noel, on Route 59. We include everything from riverbank meals featuring Dutch oven cookery to campfire entertainment and a complementary ecological education on Ozark streams. The boat offers great comfort and space for the fisherman and campers. We offer guided fishing trips on all area streams, but we specialize on the White River, Eleven Point, Bryant Creek, and Gasconade River. This is a first class floating experience that is suitable for all who want to experience the wild parts of the Ozarks.

Built around a circa 1834 limestone schoolhouse, believed to be the oldest standing schoolhouse west of the Mississippi River. In addition to the two guestrooms, we have a game room loft, a screened porch, and a high privacy porch for sun lovers. Located on 15 acres, we offer privacy and peace and quiet. Busy bird feeders, along with other wildlife, supply non-stop action and color. The owner, a former chef, serves big fluffy omelets or sourdough pancakes with huckleberry syrup for breakfast. Custom dinners are available by reservation. Guests are greeted by Daisy the basset hound, and Cocoa the chocolate lab.

Our three guestrooms (two connecting), each with private bathroom. We are situated on 52 acres, 39 of which are wooded, with two miles of trails. The other 13 acres are fenced pasture for our two horses, one donkey, twelve sheep and one goat. A lumber baron's 1889 Victorian home, with original features. Four guest chambers and two suites in period decor with fine antiques, featherbeds, and private baths (some with claw foot tub and river view). The twin parlors offer magnificent cherry and walnut fireplace mantles with original Victorian tile surrounds.

The area consists of more than 6,000 acres of rugged forest terrain in prime Ozark country. Three watersheds, the Meramec River and Huzzah and Courtois creeks, draw many visitors. Bring a canoe or kayak to access these waters for a day of fishing or floating adventure. Hikers will appreciate that six miles of the Ozark Trail transects most of the area, allowing access to many of its unique features. The Narrows, located in the extreme southwest portion of the area, is a narrow hogback ridge divided between Huzzah and Courtois creeks that features extremely steep topography and rapidly changing vegetation from ridge to creek bottom. Bear Cave and Bat Cave add to the site’s geology. Primitive campsites are open from Sept. 15 through May 15. To reach the area, cross the Meramec River at the end of Route H at Onondaga Cave State Park, or go northeast of Steelville on Route E and cross the low-water bridge at Huzzah Creek.

Meramec Conservation Area affords a glimpse of one of the jewels of the Ozarks — the Meramec River. Most of the area is home to lush forestland. Sheer cliffs along the Meramec River form the western border of the area, giving a scenic view of the river valley and surrounding hills. The wheel-chair accessible Woodland Trail offers hikers of all abilities glimpses of the river as well. Other trails provide the more adventures with hiking, horseback and bicycle riding. The area contains six caves, a great blue heron rookery and abundant wildlife. A number of streams and a spring are found on the site. Don’t forget to pack your fishing gear for a chance at hooking bass, catfish and sunfish. To reach the area, take I-44 to Route 185 near Sullivan. Exit south, go five miles and look for the cantilever sign.

Rockwoods Reservation provides a nearly 2,000-acre haven of nature in west St. Louis County. Visitors can discover Missouri’s forests and wildlife on seven different hiking trails. Bird watching is excellent — Rockwoods Reservation is listed as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by Audubon Missouri because of its diversity and abundance of birds. Bring your binoculars and camera. A number of picnic facilities provide a picturesque view for an outdoor lunch. The visitor center offers naturalist-led programs; most require advanced registration, so calling ahead is recommended. For the more adventurous at heart, the area also offers rock climbing, rappelling and wild cave exploration. These activities require special use permits, so contacting the visitor center before arrival is necessary. To reach Rockwoods Reservation, exit I-44 at Route 109 and continue four miles north to Woods Avenue. Go west on Woods, then north on Glencoe Road.

Take a six- or 11-mile float on the scenic Meramec River. A shuttle bus takes you up river and you back to your car. At Meramec Caverns. Open April-September.

This is a 37-acre RV resort in the Ozark Mountains that earned Good Sam Award of Excellence, Top 100 Rated Parks for 2009. Big-rig friendly, with level sites, many are pull-thru.
