Several locations to catch a glimpse of majestic wild eagles. 1: The observation site at the Osage River Access below Bagnell Dam has high power scopes for optimal eagle viewing. 2: At Willmore Lodge, interactive exhibits and bird mounts are displayed. High power scopes are located on the deck. 3: The Tom Sawyer Paddle wheeler features Eagle Cruises on Saturday at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.; $4 per person. 4: Osage National Golf Course Club House, where live eagles will be on display from the World Bird Sanctuary-St. Louis. Naturalists will be on hand to answer questions. Visitors are urged to bring binoculars and cameras; dress for the weather. This event is free (except for the Eagle Cruise).

Nov. 13 marks the opening of the annual winter “Catch and Release” no creel trout season at Montauk State Park. Fishing is allowed 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Fri.-Mon. The Dorman L. Steelman Lodge restaurant, snack bar and store will be open on Fri.-Sun., for limited hours of each weekend during the winter season to accommodate visitors. Some housekeeping cabins, motel rooms and a meeting room will be available throughout the winter season. The "Catch and Release" season ends Feb. 8, 2010.

Activities begin Thursday, with a pet show at 6:30 p.m. and a band concert at 8 p.m. On Friday, enjoy the car show, sanctioned barbecue cook-off, and a concert. Saturday’s events include a 5k run, 2k walk, a kid’s fun run, Rotary breakfast, kids contests, parade, pedal tractor pull, veterans recognition, and fireworks. Most events are free. Held at McCorkle Park.

The Vincentian missionaries began the tradition of the Christmas Novena around 1720. You are invited to share in the spiritual preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. JOG, inc. teams up with Route 66 Fanning Outpost General Store to sponsor the second annual Race to the Rocker. This is a unique four-mile straight shot down Route 66, beginning at Britton Funeral Home, ending at the distinctive 42-foot steel rocking chair that looms over Route 66, four miles west of Cuba. Race t-shirts feature the rocker, and JOG, inc.’s guidelines to run, walk, be healthy and have fun. This promises to be a fun run with a little extra pizzazz for runners and spectators alike. See demonstrations of soap making, tie hacking, spinners, paddle makers, blacksmiths, forestry tools, and local forest products. Early logging and mill equipment on display. Fishing and archery for the kids. Shuttle service is available for overflow parking. Held at Twin Pines Conservation Education Center.
