Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph officially becomes "The Summer Home" of the Chiefs, as 2010 Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp, presented by Heartland Health, begins with a practice at 1:50 p.m. Friday, July 30. Camp will last three weeks until Friday, Aug. 20. Special events are planned throughout camp and include a Family Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 7. For more information, please visit the Web site.
Please note there are no public events scheduled on Aug. 8, or Aug. 12-14, as the Chiefs depart for, play in and return from their first preseason game.

Kansas City
The American Royal Barbecue is the season finale for barbeque circuit. Taking up more than 20 acres in Kansas City’s historic Stockyards District, with nearly 500 competing teams, The Royal is undisputedly, the largest barbecue contest in the world. Combined with a barbecue-related trade expo, this two-day food festival is truly the World Series of Barbecue. Friday: all ages, $13. Saturday: $13; ages 5-12, $5.

The Wall That Heals exhibit features a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. It is approximately 250 feet in length. Like the original memorial, it is erected in a chevron-shape.
The replica is complete with the 58,249 names of those killed or missing in action from the Vietnam conflict. When new names are added to the memorial in Washington, D.C., The Wall That Heals is updated as soon as possible.
The exhibit includes: The Wall; a Traveling Museum: and an Information Center. On display in Rotary Park.

The Saint Louis University Museum of Art hosts Urban Wanderers. The exhibition opens July 16 with a 5:30 p.m. reception. A rescued stray from Stray Rescue of St. Louis serves as the inspiration for more than 40 artists who have painted, photographed, illustrated and sculpted their interpretation of an abandoned or abused dog or cat that has been given a second chance because of the rescue efforts of the Stray Rescue staff. The dogs and cats of Stray Rescue use their paws, tails, and/or noses to create personalized works of art. The art displayed in the exhibition is available for silent auction at www.BlackTie-StLouis.com/auctions beginning on July 16. All proceeds benefit Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
The sole purpose of Stray Rescue is to rescue stray animals in need of medical attention and place them in loving, adoptive homes. Stray Rescue is a no-kill organization.

Napoleon Bonaparte remains an undeniably powerful and enigmatic figure of world history. The Missouri History Museum has the rare opportunity to look into the private life of the Emperor of France, through an exhibition that showcases some of his most personal possessions and the possessions of those closest to him. The exhibit presents a wealth of historic artifacts, world-class artwork and unrivaled decorative arts together with a compelling story line that only Napoleon could invoke. Included are not only the personal belongings of Napoleon, but also some of the most famous depictions of the Emperor painted by some of the greatest artists of the time. The exhibition, featuring historic objects rarely seen outside the most distinguished and celebrated museums and palaces of Europe, provides unprecedented insights into the heart and mind of this complex and remarkable man. It allows viewers to see beyond the legend of Napoleon Bonaparte and reveals Napoleon the person. Presented at the Missouri History Museum.
