Established in 1855, Adam Puchta Winery is the oldest continuously owned and operated family winery in the United States. The Puchta family, now in their 7th generation, continues to produce award-winning wines in a unique, charmingly historic setting.

Perched atop the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River bottoms, seven miles east of Hermann. Enjoy our friendly, relaxing atmosphere. Our wines and beers are made on the estate. You may sample our products in the tasting area. We are happy to answer questions about the process. In addition to indoor seating, there is an outdoor veranda, under grape arbors and shade trees. Directions: From Route 100, five miles east of Hermann or nine miles west of New Haven; go north on Route B through the village of Berger; watch for our signs. Closed Easter, Thanksgiving, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Birk's Gasthaus occupies the Herzog Mansion. There are nine guestrooms, seven with private bath. There is a game room with a 50" Plasma TV, a poker table and a full size pool table. This circa 1900 farm house has modern heating, cooling, plumbing and windows. A wraparound porch, complete with porch swing, overlooks the hot-tub and deck. The original smokehouse, circa 1886, and a modern-day carriage house complete the idyllic setting.

We are actually located in Concord Hill, population 40, 1.3 miles from the Katy Trail. From Marthasville, drive west on Route 94 three miles; at the village of Peers, go north on Concord Hill Road for 1.3 miles.

Located about 10 miles northeast of Hermann, Daniel Boone Conservation Area makes for a nice diversion from Route 94, and it is a great spot for a picnic lunch.

A seven mile multi-use trail allows you to explore the area by foot, horse, or bicycle. You'll likely see many songbirds, and perhaps the elusive ruffed grouse.

Deep valleys, glades and rugged, wooded hills are there for outdoors enthusiasts. Several ponds supply opportunities to take catfish, sunfish and bass.

From Route 94: Route 19 north; Route Y, east. From I-70: Route Y at Jonesburg, six miles; southwest on Tower Road at the cantilever sign near Oak Grove Church; go three miles.

This site, in Hermann's historic district, interprets 19th century German-American immigration, history and culture. Tours include: the Strehly house (circa 1850), once the site of a German print shop and winery; the period decorated Pommer-Gentner House (circa 1840); two heritage gardens; and a barn. Admission: $4; ages 6-12, $2.50; younger than 6, free.

Radiocarbon dating indicates the park's shelter cave was inhabited more than 10,000 years ago. The park, two miles west of Danville along the Loutre River, features camping, hiking and mountain-biking trails, fishing, a boat ramp and picnicking.
