Great live music venues in Missouri
Author: Missouri Division of Tourism
Ever noticed how some places always have a great vibe? No matter what night of the week you stop in, friends are gathered, bands are playing, and the whole place exudes fun. If you’re ready to have a terrific time, head to 1860 Saloon and Hardshell Café in the historic Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis. This hotspot boasts live music seven nights a week, so no matter when you drop in, you’re sure to hear something great. Jazz, blues and R&B bands take the stage around 9 p.m. each evening — but consider showing up at the dinner hour and treating yourself to seafood gumbo or a crawfish po’boy.

The 1860 Saloon is steeped in tradition, as is a beloved hangout on the other side of the state: Kelly’s Westport Inn. Generations of Kansas City residents count Kelly’s among their favorite pubs, and visitors love it, too. Owned by the gregarious Kelly family for nearly 55 years, this Irish bar offers drink specials (including $1 off all Irish drafts on Tuesdays) and plenty of toe-tapping live music.

In Joplin, fun-seekers in search of a memorable night out head to The Kitchen Pass. In its 25th year, the Kitchen Pass hosts live music every Friday and Saturday as well as offering an open-mic night each Wednesday. Unbeatable drink specials include two-for-one domestic pitchers and pints. Looking for a snack to soak up all that, um, music? "Kitchen" is in the name for a reason. Choose from an extensive menu of appetizers (including Inferno Wings, for brave taste buds), gourmet burgers, seafood and tasty selections.

For a bar with an artsy twist, check out Beatniks in St. Charles. This relative newcomer to the booming St. Charles entertainment scene serves up food, drinks and live music in a quaint and quirky setting. Work by local artists adorns the walls, while local musicians perform on Friday and Saturday nights. Looking for a deal on dinner? Stop by any Monday night when Beatniks offers miniature hamburgers for just $1 apiece.

For a great place to dance head straight for The Outland in Springfield. Whether you prefer rockabilly, punk, blues or R&B, you’ll find excellent live tunes at The Outland. If you happen to be a budding musician, consider bringing a demo CD — the management is great about letting new talent perform.
