The Show-Me State loves good art; we display it everywhere. Stroll through the halls of our remarkable art museums, dedicated to global and local artists. Take home a masterpiece from one of our galleries. No matter where you look in Missouri, you’ll find quite the artist’s palette.

Twelve galleries and more than 10,000 art objects adorn the Springfield Art Museum. Visit “Hooves, Tails, and Claws: Audubon's Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America,” a special exhibit highlighting the
field study of animal life from the portfolio of John James Audubon. In addition to world renowned artists, the museum proudly showcases works by local artists. Admission is free; donations are always welcome.

The fourth Friday of each month (February thru November), Ste. Genevieve art galleries offer visitors the opportunity to view works of local and regional artists at the Fourth Friday Art Walk. That night, shops in the historic district extend their hours so you can have a leisurely stroll and visit the participating galleries. Buy a $5 pass; have it stamped at each gallery; enter for a chance to win a selected work of art. Ask any gallery for details.

In Cape Girardeau, one hour south of Ste. Genevieve, resides the Edward Bernard Gallery. The gallery features more than 90 artists, displaying fabulous works in a variety of media, including: glass; ceramics; wood; paintings; and other types. Ninety-five percent of the works featured are American made. Many of the glass artists studied at the Pilchuck Glass School, co-founded by world famous glass artist Dale Chihuly.

Make a vacation of it in Kansas City and stay at one of the most notable hotels in the United States. Readers of Travel+Leisure voted The Raphael Hotel one of the 2014 T+L 500 World's Best Hotels; and ranked it 22nd best among large city hotels in the continental U.S. for 2013. Located in Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza district, this boutique hotel features original oil paintings, mosaics and other works by local artists. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

A little oasis lies in Columbia at the Art Gallery inside the State Historical Society of Missouri, on the University of Missouri campus. Through summer 2014, the gallery commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War by displaying “Remembering Gen. Order No. 11,” a painting by George Caleb Bingham. Thomas Hart Benton paintings are on permanent display, featuring his “Year of Peril” series.

An hour west of Columbia, the town of Sedalia is home to the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, collecting, preserving, interpreting and exhibiting modern and contemporary works of art in nine exhibition galleries. Works by Andy Warhol, Ansel Adams and Dale Chihuly are on permanent display at the museum, located on the State Fair Community College campus.
