Turn your winery trip into a relaxing weekend getaway at two quality wineries approximately 25 miles southwest of Ste. Genevieve. Charleville Vineyard and Brewery is a lovely winery with an on-site bed and breakfast. Pair your wine with cheese and sausage in the tasting room; also, you may take your own picnic to enjoy on the vineyard’s grounds. Their microbrewery produces award-winning ales, lagers and seasonal beers. Three miles northwest of Charleville Vineyard, the gorgeous Chaumette Vineyards and Winery also offers stellar accommodations in their on-site villas. Chaumette includes a full-service day spa; a poolside cafe; and an award-winning restaurant. Live music is scheduled on summer weekends.

Located on a farm, Van Till Farm and Winery, in Rayville, makes a fantastic Friday evening destination. Each Friday, the staff at Van Till serves pizza baked in a wood-fired oven – the perfect meal to savor with one of Van Till’s six varieties of wine.
Mead, the world’s oldest fermented beverage, is a specialty at Pirtle Winery, in Weston. Mead, wine made from honey, is just one of the many delicious treats available at Pirtle Winery; they offer a wide variety of grape and fruit wines as well. Grab a seat in the vine-covered wine garden and enjoy a picnic lunch of warm bread, cheese, fruit and sausage. A 19th century German Lutheran church houses the tasting room and gift shop.
Six miles north of Platte City, Jowler Creek Winery overlooks a scenic, hilly landscape. This winery offers several delicious varieties in the tasting room. This winery – which can easily be described as a fun place – hosts a long list of special events and wine classes throughout the year. Members of their wine club garner unadvertised special.
In St. James, find a slice of paradise at Meramec Vineyards. The winery’s Bistro d’Vine features gourmet lunch offerings, including Greek olive tapenade and quiche. Choose a seat in the garden room, in the atrium, or on the patio – each offers a beautiful view. May through October, visit on Friday evenings for “Wine Down Friday,” featuring live music and special dinner selections.
