Life gets hectic; no one understands that better than busy families. Between homework assignments and soccer practices, family fun and relaxation seem to fall by the wayside. This spring, rediscover what it means to have fun and get to know your family all over again.

Your journey might begin at the Fast Lane Family Entertainment Center in Chillicothe, where kids of all ages can play to their heart’s content. Show off your bowling skills on one of 24 lanes, and challenge family members to a friendly game of pool or air hockey. On Friday and Saturday evenings at the Fast Lane, the regular lights go down, the disco lights go up, and it’s time for Cosmic Bowling.

More 10-pin fun is in store at Galactic Fun Zone in Columbia. This huge entertainment center offers activities for absolutely everyone. In addition to a bowling alley, Galactic Fun Zone houses classic and the latest arcade games; a 3,500-square-foot laser tag arena; and an 8,000-square-foot ballroom. After rolling strikes and waging laser-tag battles, refuel with great food at Galaxy Bar & Lounge, known for some of the greatest chicken wings in town.

In Osage Beach, the Putt ’n Stuff Family Fun Center reinforces the Lake area’s reputation for terrific family attractions. Choose from two 18-hole miniature golf courses, both of which possess lots of cool features like caves and waterfalls. Once the final golf scores are tallied, head for the skee-ball and video games, bumper cars, a merry-go-round and a figure-eight go-kart track; there is a kiddie track for the younger set, so everyone can partake in the racing fun.

Sports-loving families are thrilled by The Centre, a 63,000-square-foot recreational complex dedicated to all things athletic. This Rolla attraction boasts a massive, 13,000-square-foot gymnasium, where families enjoy playing basketball and volleyball. The aquatic center features a leisure pool, complete with a beach-like entrance, water slides and a lazy river, plus four lap lanes for a great workout. There is a fully equipped 4,000-square-foot fitness center, as well as a one-tenth-mile indoor track.

Treat yourself and the rest of the family to a trip down memory lane at 4th Street Fountain in the town of Elsberry. The building dates to the late 19th century. The menu boasts old time delights, fountain soda pop and ice cream desserts, including delectable offerings from chocolate malts to banana splits.

In Hannibal, try Becky's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor and Emporium. They serve ice cream cones, shakes, floats and special treats; plus, they offer plenty of fun gift items celebrating the town's beloved native son, Mark Twain.
