What better way to spend the remaining weeks of summer than on a fantastic family trip? Sure, school bells will ring soon, but there’s still plenty of time to enjoy the open road – and all the amazing sights along the way.

At VisitMO.com, we offer a full-day itinerary of fun in Kansas City: Click Here for details. Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the Cook Shack Café . The friendly staff serves such down-home treats as pancakes, waffles, and biscuits & gravy. Once you’ve fueled up for the morning, head to the nationally renowned Kansas City Zoo and meet more than 1,100 animals from throughout the world. Be sure to check out the highly popular kangaroo and chimpanzee exhibits.

As you continue your Kansas City family trip, let the creative juices flow at Legoland® Discovery Center. For generations, kids have created new worlds using Legos®. Explore the 30,000-square-foot space and be dazzled by the Lego factory and the interactive Lego laser ride. The Discovery Center features mock-ups, constructed from the iconic blocks, of regional landmarks, as well as an area for building Lego race cars. Cap-off your picture-perfect day with a show at the Coterie Theater, named by TIME Magazine: “One of the Five Best Theaters for Young Audiences” in the nation. The Coterie is nationally recognized for its exceptional theatrical programming.

In the St. Louis suburb of Kirkwood, visitors of all ages are enchanted by the Magic House Children’s Museum. TripAdvisor.com user JMHenz calls the Magic House “amazing” and wishes her family could have spent the entire day there. You can make learning absolutely magical at this huge, three-story wonderland. Thanks to hundreds of hands-on exhibits, kids exercise their creativity and develop their problem-solving skills. Little imaginations run free at themed play areas, including a grocery store, a fishing pond, a bank and a veterinarian’s office. The one-acre outdoor garden offers plenty of room to roam.

In Hannibal, embark on an adventure at Sawyer’s Creek Family Fun Park. This splendid destination pairs a phenomenal view of the Mississippi River with tons of kid-friendly activities. Show off your putting skills with a game of miniature golf. Make a splash in the bumper boats. Feed the giant fish. Go for a whirl on the rides. Don’t overlook the Sweet Shop’s house-made candy, fudge, ice cream and specialty popcorn.

Combine the great outdoors with serious thrills at Zip and Dip Zip Line Adventures, four miles north of Fredericktown. In addition to the ziplines, jump from a cliff into the cool waters of a flooded quarry. Instagram user @dudehaleyy posted a cliff-jumping photo on our VisitMO Facebook page. Make your own picture-perfect memories as you soar over the water-filled quarry. Choose a dry landing or create a splash with one of the wet landings.

Looking for a little friendly competition? You’ll find just the thing at Leisure Park. Located in Sedalia, this amusement center features a wide array of fun activities. Show off your putting skills two miniature golf courses. Channel your inner racecar driver on the go-kart track. Challenge the kids to a game of pool, pinball and air hockey.

In Osage Beach, put your driving prowess to the test at Gran Rally Go-Karts. Possibly the largest go-kart track at the Lake of the Ozarks, this is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. Zoom around the track in a single-seat kart or team up with a friend in a two-seater. Also in Osage Beach, Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf offers high-seas fun for the family. Play your way through two professionally designed 18-hole courses, each featuring caves, waterfalls and lakes.

Thrill-seeking families find lots to love at Missouri’s great theme parks. At Silver Dollar City, in Branson, enjoy a heart-pounding adventure aboard Outlaw Run: the world’s steepest drop on a wood roller coaster (162 feet, at 81 degrees); the only wood coaster in the world with a 720-degree (double) barrel roll; the second-fastest wooden coaster on the planet, with top speeds reaching 68 mph. Plus two dozen other rides; 60 unique shops; 12 restaurants; 40 live shows daily; and more than 100 resident craftsmen and artisans demonstrating America's heritage crafts.

Like roller coasters? Boomerang, a new one at Six Flags St. Louis, sends riders through 1,650 feet of twisting metal track, forward and backward. In Kansas City, visit Worlds of Fun and ride Mamba, one of the tallest, fastest and longest roller coasters in the world.

When summer temperatures soar, Missouri offers plenty of places to cool down. Pack the bathing suits and head to Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center in Cape Girardeau. Take a leisurely float on the lazy river and get adventurous on the giant flumes. The massive pool, with its zero-depth entry, is the perfect place for little ones to make a splash. The waterpark boasts many amenities, including a concession area and a space to picnic.

Imaginations run free at the Discovery Center of Springfield. Kiddos (and their parents) are wowed by this interactive science center, containing hundreds of exhibits and activities. Uncover the secrets of physics, chemistry, energy and health. Activities include, among other attractions: BodyWorks; Discovery Town; HighWire Bike; and WaterWorks.
